Energy Healing with Reiki  - In Detail Continued......

Reiki is one of the Buddhist offspring of Qigong with added Shintoist influence. Dr. Mikaomi Usui (Usui Sensei) of Kyoto, Japan rediscovered and created the name “Rei-Ki” in the late 1880’s. Written in the Japanese Kanji form, the character for “Rei” means holy, spirit, mystery, gift, divine, nature, spirit, or invisible spirit. The character “Ki” means energy, nature scene, talent and feeling. However, Rei-Ki is generally translated as “universal life energy”.

Usui Sensei retreated to Mount Kurama one day to fast and meditate. It was after this 21-day retreat that he felt the Reiki energy which made him to create the Reiki healing system. He tried it on himself and then his family. Realising how well it worked for various ailments, he decided to share this knowledge with the public.

He opened his first Reiki Clinic in Harajuku, Aoyama Tokyo in April of 1921. Along with the countless patients that came from far and wide, he also held workshops to impart this knowledge.

In September 1923, after the Kanto earthquake shook Tokyo, thousands were killed or injured and became sick in the aftermath. Dr. Usui took Reiki to the devastated city and used its healing powers on surviving victims.

His clinic soon became too small to handle all of the patients so, in February of the following year, he built a new clinic outside of Tokyo, in Nakano, and word quickly spread. Invitations from distant towns and villages started coming in and he started visiting them.

His lifelong habit of studying and gathering information helped to pave the way for the people to correctly perceive and understand Reiki.

Reiki not only heals diseases, but it also amplifies innate abilities, balances the spirit, makes the body healthy and helps achieve happiness. It was during a stay in Fukuyama when this wonderful man died. It was March 1926.

Throughout his time, Dr. Usui passed his knowledge on to over 2000 others to continue his life’s work of helping and healing. They in turn kept up with the traditions and have passed the knowledge on again. The ancestral lineage of Reiki Masters is traceable back to him, on his line.

Anyone can access Reiki as it is energy and is within all of us. The ultimate goal here is to understand Reiki and its ancient secrets to gain happiness within and to remove stigmas and misconceptions surrounding its abilities. Philosophical paradigms are once again changing the world around.

A fundamental practice for each of us is to find the quiet space that resides in our heart. Only by connecting to ourselves in our heart space can we truly love ourselves. Accept yourself and in time, as a result do the same to others. Both from an unconditional stand-point.

I am not alone when I say that my goal in educating people about Reiki is for this powerful, almost miraculous healing tool to become common place. A lovely woman once described Reiki being the norm as being the same as visiting your GP except it would be a Reiki Clinic. I would like to be a part of this shift.

How does it work?

The Reiki energy gently stimulates, clears and balances your seven Major ‘Chakras’. In the same way a singular acupuncture needle stimulates one of your many Chakras, or 12 Meridians. It is clearing blockages to restore the harmonious flow of energy.

What is a Chakra, you may ask?

Chakra is a Sanskrit word for ‘wheel’. Chakras are our energy centres, our energy wheels. They continuously absorb and emit energy. Each of the seven Major Chakras has its own frequency, its own colour and holds specific experiences.

For every experience we have had throughout our lives - physical, psychological and non-physical – they are all stored within the relative Chakra. It is when these energy centres become blocked or imbalanced we can find ourselves to be drained, emotionally unstable, or even physically ill.

The wonderful side-effects of Reiki include but are not limited to:

  • Immediate relaxation and sense of well-being,

  • Reduces pain and inflammation,

  • Reduces anxiety and depression,

  • Brings peace and clarity to mind,

  • Eases headaches and sinus congestions,

  • Brings emotional and spiritual balance, and

  • Resetting & grounding you after a hectic week
